Last Week!

Dear parents,

This is the last week of school this term! It is a short week full of fun and exciting activities!
Students will have the opportunity to read to other year groups, watch a movie, take part in a treasure hunt and watch the Pantomime, a play done by teachers to entertain and wish every student a wonderful holiday season.

This week and over the holidays, student will not take their level books home. However, they are encouraged to take part in the school reading challenge. They can use their Raz-kids account to read and record their reading. Before going on holiday, Raz-kids login/password information will be attached to everyone's diary.

They will also have access to the MyiMaths website through their usual user name and password.

Wednesday is the last day of the term for students. It is a full day, including the ECA lessons.

Enjoy your holidays with your children and see you back next term!

St. Francis Bazaar!

Dear Parents,
Last week we had our parent-teacher meetings. Thank you all for being there on time to see the teachers and help us keep the schedule with all the meetings. If time was not enough and you would like to discuss your child's report further, please contact your child's class teacher via the diary.
Saturday was our St. Francis Bazaar! It was a great time for all parents and children to spend some time together and have some fun. There were different stalls set up around the school. Some delicious ones like creating a cup cake design or making your own marshmallow stick and some more on the creative side where you could just relax and colour in your favourite Christmas image or share your idea of what to do if you could spend Christmas eve with Santa.
By the way, Santa was there! Children could talk to him and let him know about their wishes and dreams.
Children also performed in a music presentation playing the recorder and some also singing in the choir. We hope you enjoyed!
PYP 5 stall was a big hit at the beginning, selling pasta ornament, sock puppets and candles, but it was a bit slower towards the end of the event. However, we could still raise some money and add to the overall amount of the school. The money will go towards paying for the gift and hygiene kit delivery parties and instruments for Choroblue, an organization that creates opportunities for children to learn to play an instrument. Thank you very much for all of you that could help in any way and also for being there with your child to spend some quality time together with the school community. It was a great event!

Have a great week!

New Week!

Dear parents,

It's the beginning of a new week and our Bazaar items are taking shape and getting ready to be sold at the St. Francis Bazaar this Saturday, 5th of December.
Remember: each group is making a different item.

Thank you very much for all the parents who offered some help and could already take part in the production of the items. If you would still like to take part, please contact the class representative of each PYP 5 class to arrange a time to come and help.

This week we are also holding our parent-teacher meetings. Tuesday 1st at Jd. Europa and Wednesday 2nd at Pinheiros. Parents must have received an e-mail with links to class' time slots. Please make sure you book a time to see your child's teacher. On the day of the meeting in each campus, students do not have classes, however they come with parents to take part in the meeting wearing the school uniform. This meeting is mainly to discuss the report cards, so please read your child's report prior to the meeting.

Have a nice week!

Viagem ao Centro da Terra at Teatro Alpha

What an amazing show!
This Wednesday students from PYP5 through PYP7 from both campuses went to Teatro Alpha to watch the play 'Viagem ao Centro da Terra'.
It was a great and very productive experience!
The play uses various materials and perspectives. The actors interact with the audience and the whole play is  full of visual effects and blends the technology in the production very well.
The actors not only put on an outstanding show but they also saved some time at the end to talk to students and answer any questions.

Overall a very interesting morning at the theatre!

New Week, More Learning!

Dear parents,

Maths and Science Week is over and students had an amazing time taking part in experiments and challenges in many areas of Maths and Science.

There is a list of experiments and challenges that students from Pinheiros and Jd. Europa investigated and prepared a presentation on: Milk and Colours, Magnet Tracks, Tangram Challenge, Gravity Trick, Planes designs, Estimate the Beans, Parachute Drop, Tornado in a bottle, Egg Spin, Plugged up Nose Taste Test, Perspective and Lines and Angles.

Pictures of the event at the end of this post.

This week we are back to our schedule and students are researching about the Space and the Solar System with its elements to gather information about the structure of a system. There are lots of interesting facts popping up in the class and we are encouraging students to take this INQUIRY mind everywhere and beyond the school grounds. So we ask you please to support your child at home and help them in their tasks if needed. One of them, for example, is to observe the sky and record the shape of the moon  throughout this month. They can use a worksheet that will be sent home in their folders to keep track of their observations.

This Wednesday 25th we are going on another school outing to watch 'Viagem ao Centro da Terra' at Teatro Alpha. Please make sure the authorization slip and payment has been sent back to school.

Also this week, we will start to discuss and prepare items to sell at the St. Francis Bazaar. Each class is preparing a different item and parents are welcome to take part in this process. Class representatives will be in touch with class teachers to know the times when students will be preparing the items. If you would like to help, please contact them to arrange a time to come to school and get to work with the students.

We look forward to working together with you to produce beautiful items for the St. Francis Bazaar!

Have a great week!
