Week of 14/9
Dear Parents,
We are reaching the end of our first unit and building up excitement for the second unit of the school year! More information details to be provided! Please make sure your children are reading their books every night for at least twenty minutes. Engage with their reading to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone. Some ideas to make connections with the reading can be:
-Play with voices and sound out words.
-Observe capitalisations and punctuation marks.
-Observe words with the a / an article.
Please find the homework for Language and Maths this week:
Your child will receive one of the following worksheets for Language.
Language Homework 14/9 (To be assigned on Monday - due on Tuesday).
MyImaths: Number / Add Subtract Mental / 2 number facts and doubles (To be assigned on Friday - due on Monday).
Students understand the difficulties people with visual or physical impairment can go through. Furthermore, students realise the responsibility we have to create equal opportunities to all people despite their conditions.
The PYP5 and PYP4 pupils have joined efforts and launched a buddy reading project every Friday to help each other out in reading. Paired reading is a research-based fluency strategy used with readers who lack fluency. In this strategy, students read aloud to each other. When using partners, more fluent readers can be paired with less fluent readers, or children who read at the same level can be paired to reread a story they have already read. Paired reading can be used with any book, taking turns reading by sentence, paragraph, page or chapter.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please send us a message through your child's diary.
Have a great week!

Week of 7/9
Dear PYP 5 Parents,
Welcome back after the long weekend!
Last week we sent home the login information for the iMaths website which we would like to begin using. Please use the letter sent home in your child's folder to access the site. Each child has an individualised log-in.
Once you have accessed the personal area for your child, please find the homework under on the left-hand menu. It will be labled as NUMBER. Click and you will find a menu to the right where you will need to click on COUNTING AND PLACE VALUE. Finally, click on PLACE VALUE TO 30 and you will see a lesson demo and the online homework. First take a look at the lesson demo and then proceed to completing the homework.
Enjoy and best of luck with your first iMaths assignment!
Sincerely,
PYP 5 Team

Welcome Back from PYP 5!
Dear PYP 5 Parents,
We would like to send out a big welcome back to everyone! We are very happy to see all of you and looking forward to a great year! A big special welcome to the new students in PYP 5! We would like introduce this blog as a communication tool between our classrooms and your homes. As always, the diaries will still be going home so please continue checking your messages there.
Our PYP 5 learning community has already been immersed into an array of topics within the transdisciplinary theme: Sharing the Planet. Over the first four weeks of school, our students explored key aspects of our planet through the central idea of "How access to equal opportunities depends on human choices." From the central idea, we think deeper about how the accessibility to these opportunities has a connection to human and children's rights, children's lives around the world, and equal opportunities. We also begin the unit with place value, comparing numbers up to 1,000, mental maths exercises, and plenty of analysis with bar graphs. We have come up with our essential agreements of how to interact together as a group. Overall, we are already starting to realise that with the skills we build now, we will be great thinkers in the future! For further information, please visit our Curriculum Overview PYP 5 Unit 1.
We are already off to a great start and looking forward to a successful academic year! Please check the blog every week for up to date information.
