End of Unit Presentations!

Dear parents,

Students carried out an individual investigation to experience and put into practice all their learning about exploration and discoveries. They were seeking information, researching and reaching out for all kinds of support to find out and learn more about something of their own interest. It was great to see that many parents were involved in it as well!

We had many different subjects rising in class and each student digging into what they wanted to know more.

Students chose their own way to present information to an audience. There were posters, written texts, PowerPoint docs, short videos, experiments, models and oral presentations.

Trip to Cidade das Abelhas!

Dear parents,

The trip to Cidade das Abelhas was an amazing experience for everyone!

We could learn all about bees: different types of bees, how they are organised, how long they live and how important they are for the human existence on Earth. Yes, we learned that if bees become extinct humans would last for only 5 more years in the planet before going extinct as well. Pollination is the key; and that is done by the bees is the world.

We also saw the bee hives on site! (Did not get too close though, obvious reasons…) We kept a safe distance, but we could see a real bee hive from inside through a glass! We could also check the inside of a bee, its organs and structure, walking through a giant model. Amazing!

And the honey… We could taste their honey.. Yummy!

Towards the end of our trip, we had some time in the play area to have some fun and enjoy the fresh air of the Atlantic rainforest.

Overall, It was a great trip!

Student are taking home a booklet with information about Cidade das Abelhas and a free return ticket for them to go visit it again with their family. Enjoy!

End of Unit...

Dear parents,

It is the beginning of another busy, busy week in PYP 5!

Unit 2 is ending now and student will take their Unit folder home this Thursday. Please go through the folder with your child and talk about their work, effort, achievements and difficulties and fill in the sheet '2 stars and a wish' with them as a reflection of the Unit.

We are closing Unit 2 and the new Unit starts with a field trip! PYP 5 is going to Cidade das Abelhas this Wednesday 11th November! Please make sure payments and authorization slips have been sent to your child's class teacher.

Also, children are going on another outing soon to watch "Viagem ao Centro da Terra" play at Teatro Alpha, on Wednesday 25th November. Payments and authorization slips must also be sent to school as soon as possible.

Thank you very much for your collaboration towards the end of this Unit. Children are very engaged and excited about their personal exploration and are looking forward to share their findings with their classmates.
